When most people think of art, painting and drawing come to mind, yet there are many different kinds of careers and hobbies involving art that most individuals are not aware of. Kara DeLambert is an art consultant and curator who has her own business and works with art every day.
DeLambert’s love for art started early on, beginning with her interest in the famous painter Monet and being raised in an artistic household. While in high school, DeLambert felt uninspired by the classes she was taking, unsure of where life would lead her.

Eventually, after she graduated high school, she attended Sonoma State University (SSU). She began taking various art courses and fell in love with the topics, her grades flourishing. Wanting to be more involved with the art community, DeLambert helped out local artists as an assistant, where she would help frame paintings, sell art and help out at gallery shows.
Along with assisting artists, she worked at SSU’s University Art Gallery and Image Collection. Although she worked full time, balancing both volunteering and her job, she was committed to her passion. She graduated from Sonoma State in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Art History with a minor in Arts Management.
DeLambert kept in touch with some of the artists with whom she previously assisted in college and started her own art consulting business called Lynae Arts. In addition to running her own company, she became the curator for Imagery Estate Winery in Glen Ellen in 2015, commissioning artists to design artwork for their wine labels.
For 13 years, she’s connected local artists with clients to build a contract centering around specific artistic commissions for her business. Heather Patterson, Elaine Coombs, Bob Nugent, and others from San Francisco, Sonoma, Marin, and the Bay Area are some artists she works with.

If you are interested in following a similar path as her, DeLambert advises you to begin by getting a degree in art. It is also important to take a studio art class, even if it is not your talent, since it is vital for understanding the creative process. Gaining experience through internships is also very important, potentially helping you locate future jobs.
Kara DeLambert proves how one can experience the world of art in full without having the talent for art creation, opening up a new world for career possibilities. Although starting your own business can be daunting, DeLambert proves that with hard work and determination, you can eventually have a successful career doing what you love.
