The All-Nighter is a significant event for Technology High School (THS). At THS, there is a special focus on science and engineering, which has inspired a number of related clubs. Among these is the robotics club, which is also responsible for running the All-Nighter. The All-Nighter is a fall event at THS where students are invited to bring their home computers and game consoles to school from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Everything is set up in Mr. Weaver’s kingdom, the D wing. If there are enough students, the student center can also be used. It is an excellent opportunity to hang out with friends that you wouldn’t normally see outside of school, and to simply have fun.
The All-Nighter has been an important part of THS culture. It originated in 2007, with parties during the day that moved to the night out of request of the students. The All-Nighter is an event driven by student feedback, which means that each All-Nighter improves upon the last. Even though it improves, every year the team also faces the same struggle: finding chaperones.
Chaperoning for the All-Nighter is generally simple, the only difficult part is the background check. In order to be eligible for chaperoning, you must pass a background check and submit your fingerprint, which can take two to three weeks. However, if you have chaperoned any other events in the Cotati Rohnert Park Unified School District (CRPUSD), you will have already completed this process, and don’t have to do it again. Chaperones don’t usually stay the entire night, instead switching out in two four-hour shifts. Additionally, they aren’t forced to just sit and watch. Chaperones are invited to join in with their friends and family.
There are a few requirements for the students as well. It is expected that students will stay for the entire time, but if a student wants to leave early, all that is required is the presence of a parent/guardian to check them out personally. It is important that students understand that they cannot leave and come back. They should also do their best to avoid being late, as that may result in them not being admitted. Students who know that they will be late due to sports or other events must inform Mr. Weaver ahead of time. While at the event, students should avoid inappropriate behavior and media. It is best to check with Mr. Weaver if you aren’t sure if the media you are consuming is appropriate. Emails containing more information about the event will be sent out to families sometime before the All-Nighter, which is from Nov. 15 to 16 this year.
During the All-Nighter, students can expect a chance to hang out with friends and play games. Network settings will be changed to allow students to play games on Xbox, PlayStation, and other devices. Pizza and soda are customary for the All-Nighter, along with a wide range of foods, including sweets, vegetables, and salty snacks. All students from all grades are eligible to attend the All-Nighter. This will be the only All-Nighter this year, so if you want to go, don’t miss out on this one, as there will not be another until next school year. This is the last chance for seniors to participate!
