You may have heard of the Golden State Warriors, but have you heard of The Golden State Valkyries? The Golden State Valkyries are a new Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team presented to the league playing from the Bay.
The Valkyries will begin their official 2025 season playing against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 16, in the San Francisco Chase Stadium. The team’s roster includes many old experienced players and young up to date stars.
Some players on the roster have already won a championship playing on a different team such as Kayla Thornton, Temi Fagbenle, and Cecilia Zandalasini. These are also some key players who might be able to help the Valkyries begin their new seasonal victory run.
The head coach of the Golden State Valkyries is Natalia Nakase and the general manager is Ohemaa Nyanin. Nakase has had over 16 years of experience as a coach for a professional basketball team and has helped assist two championships in 2022-2023 for the Las Vegas Aces. Nakase decided to leave the Las Vegas Aces to officially become the head coach of this new Women’s Basketball Team.
The teams roster currently includes Kate Martin, Kaitlyn Chen, Shyanne Sellers, Juste Jocyte, Tiffany Hayes, Veronica Burton, Temi Fagbenle, Julie Vanloo, Kayla Thornton, Monique Billings, Carla Leite, Cecilia Zandalasini, Stephanie Talbot, Mamignan Toure, Janelle Salaun, Laeticia Amihere, Chloe Bibby, Elissa Cunane, and Kyara Linskens.
The owners of the Golden State Warriors (Joe Lacob & Peter Guber) came up with the idea of bringing a WNBA team into the Bay. The Bay Area has already shown excitement and pride for the upcoming team with key Golden State players including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, four time NBA champions, representing the Golden State Valkyries by wearing the team’s jerseys at games. The Valkyries purple logo is shaped as a V (Representing Victory) with the Golden Gate Bridge inside it. The logo has thirteen lines on it representing the Golden State Valkyries as the thirteenth WNBA team to play in the league. The Valkyries are a bold representation of women’s strength and empowerment to San Francisco and Oakland.
The passionate, competitive, and loyal Bay Area fans are ready to welcome this women’s basketball team into San Francisco. Valkyries tickets are already being sold out quickly with eager fans waiting for the teams first game against the Los Angeles Sparks.
