All starting in Mr. Torre’s classroom at Technology High School, director Theo Rothman and writer Liam Zeidler decided to create a comedic parody story based off of a George Washington Saturday Night Live sketch they saw and the famous movies/show “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” and “Space Balls.” As a result they ended up creating the story of “Measurement Wars!”

The short film featured Ken Torre as the evil Darth Furlong and Greg Weaver as the heroic Luke Skymeter, with the both of them battling over which measurement system is superior, imperial or metric. When asked about the production of “Measurement Wars” Rothman said “I had a great time creating it. It was really fun. I enjoyed working with my team as much as there was shouting and… lots of emotion, but we got it done, and we had a terrific time doing it.” They had a private showing at Tech High in 2025 and it was publicly released on YouTube on Jan 1, 2026. Rothman and Zeidler cherish the original film but they also said it was very difficult to create as well.
Rothman added “It was a slow process of editing, re-editing, editing, re-editing, [and] audio changing. They screwed up Premier Pro the day I was at my dad’s wedding. So I had to come back on Monday and go, what the heck?” Saying after that,“We’ve gotten better at it now, we know how to use Premier Pro a bit better. We’re looking forward to a slightly smoother process this year.”

Rothman and Zeidler plan to use their skills from the first “Measurement Wars” and create a sequel that is meant to have “unlimited” possibilities and be “interesting” according to both of them. The sequel will again feature the two stars from the original, teachers at Tech High Ken Torre and Greg Weaver as they reprise their roles as Darth Furlong and Luke Skymeter. As they clash once again to argue which measurement system is superior.
Currently Rothman and Zeidler are very open for volunteers to help them produce the sequel, because, according to Rothman, they are behind schedule. They originally planned to release on April 24 but they are now considering delaying the film’s release until May with no official date yet.
